Local amateur Brad Lamb
has won the Victorian Open golf tournament after a sudden death playoff with
Swede Jens Nilsson at the Cranbourne club.
The pair had tied at 14-under
the card after 72 holes and Lamb won on the first playoff hole when he parred
the par five 13th, which Nilsson bogeyed.
Nilsson however is the big
financial winner - he takes home the $18,000 first prize as well as $10,000 for
scoring a hole-in-one at the par three 11th.
Tied for third at 12-under
par were Queensland amater Adam Scott, who blew a three shot lead with a triple
bogey at the 15th hole, and Victorian Scott Laycock.
Amateurs have now won three
of the six professional events on the summer circuit after wins by Aaron Baddeley in the Australian Open and Brett Rumford in the Players' Championship.
However, the Vic Open is
not part of the Australasian PGA Tour.
