Tournament officials announced today that Lanny
Wadkins is committed to play at The ACE Group Classic. This will be Wadkins'
first Senior PGA Tour event. The ACE Group Classic will be held February 7-13,
2000 at The Pelican Marsh Golf Club in Naples.
Other new additions to The ACE Group Classic field,
which already has 27 of the top 31 money winners from 1999, are Bob Murphy, Gary
Player, Lee Trevino, Dave Stockton and Senior TOur rookie Tom Watson. Combined,
these five legendary players along with Wadkins have won more than 180 events
and nearly 30 Majors on the PGA TOUR and the Senior Tour.
"We are thrilled that Wadkins will make his debut
on the Senior Tour at our event," said Tim Erensen, tournament director. "With
other legendary players like Murphy, Player, Trevino, Stockton and Watson also
committed, The ACE Group Classic is shaping up to be one of the most exciting
stops on the 2000 schedule."
Wadkins holds one of golf's more impressive resumes.
A 27-year PGA Tour veteran, Wadkins is one of only four PGA Life Members. The
other three are legends, Jack Nicklaus, Raymond Floyd and fellow rookie Tom Watson.
Wadkins also earned a spot on eight Ryder Cup squads -- including the distinction
of Captain in 1985.
The ACE Group Classic is the third event on the
2000 Senior Tour calendar and the second event in which Wadkins is eligible to
play.
