Webb quoted at shortest price ever for golf event

Karrie Webb will tee up in this week's AU$1.2 million Australian Ladies Masters on the Gold Coast as the shortest-priced favourite in golf tournament history.

The world No.1-ranked Queenslander, who fired a closing nine-under 64 to win last weekend's Australian Open, has been posted by CentreBet at odds of 5-4 to win her third successive Masters at Royal Pines.

Webb shot a US LPGA Tour record of 26-under-par to win last year and after her 22-under effort at Yarra Yarra last weekend, the bookie is extremely wary on a course that suits her game.

The only players rated as real threats to Webb completing her Masters hat-trick are Britain's Laura Davies at 5-1 and fellow Queenslander Rachel Hetherington at 8-1, who chased her home in Melbourne.

Webb's short odds are the more surprising given the the quality of this year's Masters field, which includes many of the world's best players including former champions, Sweden's Liselotte Neumann, Britain's Alison Nicholas and Catriona Mathews and US stars Kelly Robbins and Betsy King as well as some of Asia's leading players.

The shortest price Tiger Woods was quoted at during his recent six tournament-winning streak was 9-4 .
