Woosnam already gearing
up for 2001 Ryder Cup
One time Masters champion
Ian Woosnam is prepared to write off 6 months of the year in order to qualify
for the 2001 Ryder Cup at The Belfy.
The 41-year-old missed the
defeat at the hands of America at Brookline last September, his first absence
since 1983.
"The next six months
are about getting my game together for September when the qualification period
for the Ryder Cup starts," said Woosnam.
"I've been working
very hard on my swing with Pete Cowen for the last three weeks but it's difficult
to play and practice so hard at the same time.
"Pete's trying to get
me back to coming lower through the ball so I don't keep blocking the ball high
and right.
"I've been playing
pretty good but to get back to where I want to be I have to putt a lot better.
I've been chopping and changing but I'm trying to stick with a short putter for
a while and give it a chance to work."
Woosnam will be one of the
favourites at this weeks Portuguese
