Ebihara wins first senior event

Japan's Seiji Ebihara won his first European Seniors Tour title when he scored two birdies for a one-under-par 71 and a single stroke victory to defeat overnight leader, New Zealand's Simon Owen in the AIB Irish Seniors Championship at Powerscourt.

"In the end, I am delighted that I was able to finish so strongly. It means a great deal for me to win for the first time on the European Seniors Tour and it is particularly special because it has happened here in Ireland.

"Since we arrived here, everybody has been so kind to us. The local people could not have been nicer so I'd like to dedicate this victory to them"

Owen started the final round with a three-shot lead but bogeyed his first two holes to get off to a bad start.

"To be honest, I didn't feel comfortable all day"

"This is only my second start since joining this Tour. I'm not really tournament sharp and I think it showed out there today.

"Putting a positive slant on it, I didn't play my best but still managed to contend coming down the stretch. I've got to take something from that. But, to be fair, Seiji deserved to win it. I blew it. It was as simple as that."
