Paul Casey named Rookie
of the Year
Surrey golfer Paul Casey has been named the European Tour's rookie of the year.
The 24-year-old, who picked up the Sir Henry Cotton award, finished the Order
of Merit season in 22nd place with earnings of £470,000.
Casey only made his tour debut at the Benson and Hedges International Open
at The Belfry in May, where he finished 12th.
This is the icing on the cake, it's been a fantastic year
He followed that effort with second place in the Great North Open and in August
won the Scottish PGA Championship.
"I think it is a great accolade - you only have one chance to do it,"
said Casey.
"This is the icing on the cake. It's been a fantastic year - just getting
my tour card made it a great one.
"But winning a tour title, being named a golfer of the month, representing
England in the World Cup and now the rookie of the year has made it even better."
Last year's recipient of the award was Ian Poulter, who will partner Casey
at the World Cup in Japan starting on Thursday.
