David Duval finally signs Nike deal

David Duval, who is embattled in a lawsuit over his spilt from Titleist, signed a contract with Nike late Wednesday night for an estimated $7 million a year. He becomes the first player to use every product that Nike has to offer.

Duval, currently ranked sixth in the world, had been without an endorsement deal since the end of December when he terminated his contract with Acushnet, the parent company of Titleist. Since then, Titleist has sued Duval and International Management Group for breach of contract and Duval has filed a counterclaim.

Acushnet chief Wally Uihlein, who believes Duval and his management began working on this deal long ago, stated that this Nike contract doesn't change anything with the legal proceedings.

"We're continuing to plod along through this legal process," Uihlein said. "This is just the consummation of an arrangement that's been fairly transparent."

David Duval lets his cap do the talking during recent disagreements, it reads blah, blah, blah. Allsport.

World-number-one Tiger Woods, who switched to the Nike ball in June, recently signed a contract extension with Nike for about $20 million a year. Duval's signing gives Nike two of the top golfers in the world.

"By signing this agreement, we're moving forward," Nike spokesman Mike Kelly said. "I think he further solidifies our role in the golf business. Having another player of that calibre, especially working on our club line, gives us credibility. We think he is going to win a lot of tournaments."

Duval is currently playing in the Genuity Championship in Florida and came out for his first round on Thursday dressed from head to toe in Nike.
