The 2002 Greater Hartford Open will be the last with Canon USA Inc. as its
title sponsor.
The company and the Greater Hartford Jaycees announced the move Monday and
also said that the purse for next year's tournament will be increased from $3.1
million to $4 million.
''Canon's support has elevated the tournament to a new level, and we look
forward to building on this tradition with a new title sponsor,'' said Teresa
M. Saulter, president of the Jaycees.
Canon's 18-year partnership with the tournament is the sixth-longest in professional
golf. Canon USA president Kinya Uchida said the move to end the sponsorship was
a ''difficult business decision.''
The tournament celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, with Phil Mickelson
winning at the TPC at River Highlands.
