Mark James to return for Volvo PGA

Mark James has targeted the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth for his comeback after beating cancer. That event, the final weekend in May, is second in prominence to the British Open on the European Tour.

The 47-year-old former Ryder Cup captain has been out of action for nearly seven months after being diagnosed with cancer, which needed chemotherapy and the removal of a tumor.

"You can never say with cancer that you're completely cured," said James. "You have to go back for scans for years afterwards but at the moment I'm doing great.

"I'm back practicing and working out and it's great to have my life back," he added. "My first tournament back will be the PGA and I will probably end up playing in about 13 or 14 tournaments during the year.

"Seven months without hitting a golf shot is a heck of a long time for any pro," he said, "and it's going to take a bit of time to get back to where I was."
