Scandinavians lead in the wind

French Tour rookie Karine Icher snatched her second victory in three weeks when she birdied the third playoff hole in the Mexx Sport Open at Kennemer GC, picking up the £15,000 first prize denying fellow rookie Suzann Pettersen from Norway a second Tour win.

The 22-year-old presumed she had thrown away her chance of the £15,000 first prize when, two ahead, she ran up a six-over-par 11 at the 487-yard 12th where she lost two balls and then three-putted.

But, with fighting birdies at the 16th and 17th in a level-par 72, she posted a four-under-par 212 total and went on to secure the title with a birdie three at the third hole of a sudden-death play-off against Norway's Suzann Pettersen, who carded a 73.

After holing the 12-foot winning put, Icher, winner of the German Open two weeks ago, said: "After the 11, I really thought I'd lost it. I was so stupid - but it was a great comeback."
