Mickelson may miss Buick with poisoning

Phil Mickelson may be forced to miss the PGA Tour's Buick Invitational in California.

Mickelson, skipped Wednesday's pro-am in order to recuperate from a bout of food poisoning.

Last year's Buick win set the tone for Mickelson's best ever season.

He won three other tournaments, including The Tour Championship, and took home nearly $5m in prize money.

He is scheduled to tee off with Pebble Beach pro-am winner Davis Love III and Steve Jones on the Torrey Pines South Course on Thursday at 1709 GMT.

If he is able to compete this week, Mickelson, who also won the event in 1993, will try to become just the second repeat winner and first three-time champion at this event.

Tiger Woods is still fighting a hyper-extended knee suffered in a collision with an over-aggressive autograph seeker after a practice round last Wednesday.

He tied for 13th at the Pebble Beach pro-am after winning it in 2000.

Woods said: "It's still all right, not great, but good enough."
