Sherbourne returns to winning ways

Andrew Sherborne gained his first win for 9 years at the Open Golf Montecchia near Padova in Italy.

It was 1992 that Sherbourne last won a victory in a professional event, the Spanish Open.

"It's nice to win again but that's what we are out here for." he said

"It's also exciting to be in contention again and to play some good golf in sunny, warm conditions. I was never in any real trouble today. Just one mishit shot, my two-iron tee shot at the short 17th, but I managed to scramble a par.

"But I never feel certain of victory until that last putts drops."

Sherborne is hoping to regain his European Tour card via the Challenge Tour this year, having lost his exempt status in 1999. With this win he moves to the top of the current Challenge Tour money list.
