Nelson rates Tiger the greatest ever

Byron Nelson says that, at age 25, Tiger Woods already has shown he's the greatest golfer of all time.

"It's at the top of golf accomplishments absolutely,'' Nelson, 89, told The Dallas Morning News in today's editions. "From my standpoint, it is more unbelievable than my winning 11 in a row.''

Nelson's streak of 11 tournament wins in 1945 included only one major, the PGA Championship. The Masters, U.S. Open, and British Open weren't played that year because of World War II.

"I never thought I would ever see anybody win four straight majors,'' Nelson said of Woods's accomplishment last weekend. "It is a remarkable feat. I think it just confirms more strongly than ever that he's the best player in the world. I don't think you could find anybody that would argue that.''

Bobby Jones won the Grand Slam in 1930 by capturing the British and U.S. Opens and the British and U.S. Amateur championships. Ben Hogan in 1953 was the only other player besides Woods in 2000 to win three professional major in one season.
