Jack Nicklaus out of
Hyundai event
Back problems have caused Jack Nicklaus to withdraw from this weekend's Hyundai
Team Matches at Monarch Beach Golf Links.
Nicklaus, who teamed with Tom Watson to win the Senior PGA Tour division of
this match-play event the last two years, will be replaced by two-time U.S. Open
champion Andy North.
``We are certainly disappointed that Jack will not be able to join Tom to defend
their title, but this is a decision based on his health and we certainly are understanding
of that,'' tournament director Gary Pollard said in a news release.
Lower back problems caused Nicklaus to withdraw from the UBS Warburg Cup in
South Carolina last month and the Office Depot Father/Son Challenge in The Bahamas
over the weekend.
``I have truly enjoyed the last two years, and obviously would have liked the
opportunity for a three-peat with my friend, Mr. Watson,'' Nicklaus said.
The competition features players from the PGA, LPGA and Senior PGA Tours. Monarch
Beach Golf Links is hosting the event for the first time.
