Greg Norman forced to withdraw at Doral

Greg Norman was forced to withdraw from the Genuity Championship Thursday morning due to a fever that topped out at 103 degrees.

Norman informed tournament officials of his decision to drop out at around 7 a.m., about one hour before his scheduled tee time in the opening round.

The 46-year-old Australian, who shot a 74 in Wednesday's pro-am, has been replaced in the field by Richard Coughlan.

Norman was the winner of this event at the Doral Resort in 1990, '93 and '96. He was set to make his first start of the 2001 PGA Tour season.
