Campbell won't boycott New Zealand Open

Golfer Michael Campbell has withdrawn a threat to boycott the New Zealand Open in January to protest a tenfold increase in ticket prices to support the appearance of Tiger Woods.

Campbell threatened a boycott when ticket prices increased from $20.50 to $205. Tournament officials have said that Woods will receive more than $2 million to play in New Zealand for the first time. Woods' caddie, Steve Williams, is a New Zealander.

Campbell's boycott threat was supported by a number of professionals, among them New Zealanders Greg Turner and Bob Charles.

Campbell said while he was sincere in his boycott threat, he was never happy at the thought of bypassing his national open. He reconsidered after winning a concession from tournament organizers which would allow children under 16 to be admitted at no cost.
