New Senior
PGA Tour event for Oahu
The Senior PGA Tour is returning to Oahu this fall for the first
since in nearly a decade with the debut of the Turtle Bay Championship.
The $1.5 million tournament scheduled for Oct. 1-7 will replace
Maui's EMC Kaanapali Classic. It will be played at The Links at
Kuilima at the Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu's North Shore.
``Being able to continue a full-field senior tour event in Hawaii
is extremely gratifying,'' PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said
Monday. ``Our players have always enjoyed competing in Hawaii and
this event falls during a particularly important time of year for
the players.''
The last Senior PGA Tour on Oahu was the Ko Olina Senior Classic
in 1992 won by Chi Chi Rodriguez. The Turtle Bay Resort hosted the
inaugural Senior Skins Game in 1988.
