The first seven golfers held their positions for the third straight
week Monday in the official World Golf Rankings.
Tiger Woods, who looks to three-peat at the PGA Championship
this weekend at the Atlanta Athletic Club, remained securely atop the list in
the latest rankings, followed by Phil Mickelson and British Open champion David
Duval.
Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Davis Love III, the 1997 PGA Championship
winner, and Sergio Garcia held their positions at the fourth, fifth, sixth, and
seventh spots.
The next four players exchanged positions. Darren Clarke moved
to eighth while Colin Montgomerie fell to ninth and Mike Weir entered the top-10
replacing last year's top European player Lee Westwood.
Westwood has dropped several spots this year after failing
to defend any of the five titles he collected in 2000. His last chance to defend
in 2001 will come in October at the World Match Play Championship.
Thomas Bjorn held his spot at 12th followed by Padraig Harrington,
who moved up one position after finishing in the top-10 at the Buick Open. Jim Furyk, who finished in a tie for second at the Buick Open, jumped four notches
to 14.
Michael Campbell remained in 15th followed by Hal Sutton who
dropped three spots to 16. U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen fell back one to 17th,
while Nick Price moved up one position to 18th.
David Toms and Scott Hoch rounded out the top-20 in 19th and
20th, respectively.
This year's Buick Open winner Kenny Perry vaulted 27 spots
to 39th.
