Lee Westwood fires caddie
Last year's European number one Lee Westwood has sacked his caddie in a bid
to find some late form in a disappointing season.
British bagman Martin Gray was with Westwood for his record-equalling six European
wins and seven worldwide last year.
But Westwood had been unhappy with their relationship recently. "There
was no spark between the two of us and I felt it was time for a change,"
he said at Gut Larchenhof where he is due to play in the German Masters which
starts on Thursday.
"Sometimes a change is good and I am hoping now there will be changes
for the better for me, because nothing has been happening all year."
Westwood has failed to win a tournament this year. His best finish is a tied
second in the Scandinavian Masters in July and he is currently 42nd in the Order
of Merit.
Ernie Els' caddie Ricci Roberts is on temporary duty for Westwood in Cologne
before his new bagman Andy Forsyth, formerly with ex-Ryder Cup Englishman Paul
Broadhurst, takes over for next week's World Matchplay Championship.
