Allenby
will miss Australian PGA defence Australia's highest-ranked golfer,
Robert Allenby, has decided not to defend his Australian PGA title, angering tournament
officials.
The world No. 20, who won the Australian PGA in 2000 and 2001,
is skipping the event to play a more lucrative tournament in South Africa. "There's
only one winner and that's Robert Allenby, and one loser and that's Australian
golf," tournament chairman Tony Roosenburg told reporters. Allenby
defended his decision. "I got asked last week to play Sun City,"
he was quoted as saying in Australian newspapers. "I've never been there
and invitations like that don't come around too often."
