Sales of Rich Beem's book rocket

The rags to riches story of US PGA champion Rich Beem has suddenly become a very lucrative one with a book detailing Beem's debut season shooting up the best-seller's charts.

"Bud, Sweat and Tees: A Walk on the Wild Side on the PGA Tour", which was listed at 628th in the list less than a week ago has, rocketed up to seventh thanks to Beem's triumph on Sunday.

It seems the 31-year-old is non-plus about the success of the book which he actually had little involvement in.

"I didn't even get a free book. I didn't get paid. He says he's going to take me to dinner, but I don't think so," Beem said.

Beem, heads to Seattle for the NEC world championship this weekend - the city in which he gave up golf and sold mobile phones and car stereos for a year seven years ago.

He made seven dollars an hour, plus commission. On Sunday he won 990,000 US dollars and moved fourth on the US tour money list with 2.6million US dollars.
