PGA
announce new sponsor for Buy.com tour The PGA Tour has a new
sponsor for its developmental tour. Now all it needs is a name. Nationwide,
one of the country's largest insurance and financial service organizations, signed
a five-year deal to be the umbrella sponsor for a tour that has been a starting
point for players like Ernie Els, John Daly, David Duval and David Toms. Nationwide
will replace Buy.com as the sponsor, giving the tour its fourth name since it
began as the Hogan Tour in 1990. Nike also was a tour sponsor. PGA Tour
commissioner said Friday the name of the tour will be announced later. It will
be closely tied to the PGA Tour brand. ``Nationwide and the PGA Tour are
going to be linked here,'' he said. ``The PGA Tour Nationwide Series, or something
like that, will probably be where we wind up.'' Finchem also said The Golf
Channel will increase its four-day coverage of the developmental tour from 12
to at least 14 tournaments.
