Garcia
wins Canadian Skins Game Sergio Garcia made a 3-foot birdie putt
on the 16th hole worth seven skins and $160,000 and went on to win the Telus Skins
Game on Tuesday.
Garcia, who didn't win any skins in Monday's first nine
holes, added another $25,000 with a final skin on the second playoff hole and
finished with a total of $185,000. ``I had a couple of holes when I played
bad shots and then on 16, when everybody looked like they were struggling, I hit
two great shots and got seven skins,'' Garcia said. Vijay Singh was second
with five skins worth $90,000, all won Monday, while John Daly had five skins
worth $85,000. Canada native Mike Weir was shut out before a sellout crowd of
5,000 at the Grandview Golf Club's 6,905-yard, par-72 Mark O'Meara course. ``Obviously
it's disappointing,'' Weir said. ``I played well, made seven birdies, just the
wrong timing and that's what skins is all about.'' Garcia hit a solid drive
on the 420-yard, par-4 16th and followed it up with a wedge to 3 feet. Singh missed
his 12-foot birdie attempt, setting up Garcia for the big haul. ``I said
it before -- skins games, you have to play well but you have to be lucky,'' Garcia
said. ``You have to make the birdie when nobody does.''
