Nick
Dougherty named Rookie of the Year Nick Dougherty is the European
Tour Rookie of the Year. Dougherty, 20, of Liverpool, is the third straight
English winner of the Sir Henry Cotton award. Paul Casey won last year and Ian Poulter in 2000.
"My first objective at the start of the year was
to retain my card, and I was fortunate enough to achieve that by March,"
he said. "This is a fantastic way to finish the year, especially when I look
at the caliber of people who have won the award in the past." Previous
winners include Tony Jacklin, Sam Torrance, Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle, José
Maria Olazábal, Colin Montgomerie and Sergio Garcia.
Dougherty finished
36th on the tour money list with $573,860. His best showing was a second-place
finish at the Qatar Masters.
