Pete
Dye recovering from cancer surgery World-renowned golf course
designer Pete Dye was recovering Friday in a hospital, reportedly following surgery
for colon cancer. Family members told GolfDigest.com that doctors found
a malignant tumor in Dye's colon during an exam on Dec. 12 and later surgically
removed it. The 76-year-old Dye was in good condition at Bethesda Memorial
Hospital in Boca Raton, hospital spokeswoman Cynthia Forkner told The Associated
Press. She wouldn't provide further details. "Pete was in fabulous
shape before going in for his checkup," Pete's wife, Alice, told GolfDigest.com.
"He was walking five miles a day and playing some great rounds of golf. So
this came as a complete surprise." A former president of the American
Society of Golf Course Architects, Dye has designed over 100 courses throughout
the United States.
