Asian
Dynasty Cup team announced Jyoti Randhawa, India's first ever
winner this year of the Davidoff Asian Tour's Order of Merit crown, has been included
in the Asia team to play Japan in the inaugural Dynasty Cup at Mission Hills Golf
Club in Shenzhen, China, from March 14-16, 2003. So too has Thai star Thongchai
Jaidee, last year's Asia No one, who over the two years (2001 and 2002) topped
the points list of automatic qualifiers for Asia's eight-man Dynasty Cup team. The
team has been finalized following last Sunday's season-closing Volvo Masters of
Asia and along with Jaidee includes two other Thais in Thammanoon Srirot and Thaworn
Wiratchant, a second Indian in Arjun Atwal, South Korea's Charlie Wi and Kang
Wook-soon and China's number one and two Zhang Lian-wei and Thammanoon Srirot. Randhawa
grabbed the last automatic qualifying position in eighth place, finishing just
ahead of Korean Kevin Na, who won the Volvo Masters of Asia, and has been named
as first reserve for the team. Non-playing captain Hsieh Min-nan of Taiwan
has still to name his four wild card picks and Japan their entire team. In
the meantime Ramlan Haron, Executive Director of the Asian PGA, is convinced that
the eight players who have so far been announced are the best "The
selection procedure which uses a points system based on the Davidoff Tour has
ensured that the cream rose to the top and I'm sure we will parade the finest
eight Asian players against Japan next March," said. "We'll finalise
the rest of the captain's picks soon, but based on the strength in depth of our
team, we are already confident of giving Japan a really good run for their money.
