Big boost in prize funds
for French Open
The French Open prize fund has been increased by 54% to two million Euros,
the European Tour has announced.
The tournament, which this year takes place at Le Golf National in May, has become
one of the 10 most lucrative events on the schedule, excluding the four major
championships and the four World Golf Championships events.
"This is a huge boost for the tournament and we can look forward to another
exciting week at Le Golf National," said French Open promoter Bernard Pascassio.
Jose Maria Olazabal won the title last year for the first time in his career,
finishing at 12-under-par 268 to beat Paul Eales, Costantino Rocca and Greg Turner
by two shots at Lyon Golf Club.
