Garcia declines invitation
to Seve Trophy
Although he has declared an ambition to win the money lists in both America
and Europe this year, Sergio Garcias over-riding commitment to the US Tour
was underlined yesterday when he delivered a snub to his mentor Seve Ballesteros
by declining to take part in the Seve Trophy next month.
Garcia has told Ballesteros he wont make the trip to Ireland for the
match between Great Britain and Ireland and the Continent at Druids Glen in the
week after the Masters. Instead Garcia will tee up at Hilton Head for the MCI
Classic.
Asked if hed spoken personally to Seve about the decision, Garcia described
his friends reaction to the news as OK: "He understood - thats
the way it goes sometimes. If there was a clone of Sergio, Id be able to
play everywhere, every week, but unfortunately theres only one Sergio Garcia,"
he said.
