Goosen named Golfer of the Month

South Africa's Retief Goosen has been voted the European Tour's golfer of the month for April after finishing second to Tiger Woods at the US Masters, the Tour announced on Tuesday.

Goosen, winner of the 2001 European order of merit and US Open, also won the BellSouth Classic in America the week before the Masters, where he finished three shots behind the world's number one.

The 33-year-old from Pietersburg tops the European order of merit from compatriot Ernie Els, winner of March's award.

Goosen was chosen by the association of golf writers from a list of contenders that included Spain's Sergio Garcia, winner of the Spanish Open, and Scot Colin Montgomerie, who captained Britain and Ireland to victory over Europe in the Seve Trophy.
