Harrington
waits on x-ray results European Ryder Cup player Padraig Harringtonmust wait until Saturday for the results of an X-ray on his injured ankle, his
management said on Tuesday. Harrington, who sustained the injury at the Dutch
Open in July, has also been suffering neck and shoulder pains recently and has
become a major worry for Europe's Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance.
"Padraig
has had his scans and test and must now wait until Saturday for the results,"
a spokeswoman for his management said.
"He's in good spirits but obviously
he can't make any decision until he's had the results back." Harrington
has been one of the most consistent performers from the European team this year,
having secured two fifth-place finishes and an eighth in the first three majors
of the season. Although the Irishman played in the BMW International in
Munich last week -- firing back-to-back 68s on the weekend -- he struggled with
his ankle as the weather deteriorated on Sunday. He also plans to visit
coach Bob Torrance -- father of Sam -- this week to see whether his swing has
been affected by his injured ankle and is causing the pain in his neck and shoulder.
Colin Montgomerie has also given Sam Torrance cause for concern. The
seven-times European No. 1 has been suffering from a back complaint that saw him
withdraw from the WGC-NEC Invitational in America last month. The Scot is down
to play the German Masters next week but doubts remain as he may choose to further
rest his back ahead of The Belfry clash from September 27-29.
