Harrington climbs to World No.6 Padraig Harrington climbed to
a career-high No. 6 in the world golf rankings following his playoff victory at
the Dunhill Links championship.
Harrington, a member of the European Ryder
Cup team that beat the U.S. the weekend before, moved up three spots after defeating
Eduardo Romero on the second extra hole at St. Andrews, Scotland. Romero advanced
16 places to a best-ever No. 19. Tiger Woods, who didn't play this week,
kept his lead over Phil Mickelson atop the rankings, his 165th as No. 1. Charles
Howell III jumped 21 places to 39 after winning the Michelob Championship, his
first U.S. PGA Tour title. Rankings are based on performances over two
years. Points are calculated with reference to finishing positions and the strength
