Bernhard
Langer returns to world top 20 Bernhard Langer has moved back
into the top 20 on the world rankings after sharing the Volvo Masters title with
Colin Montgomerie.
The experienced German has improved 14 places on the
rankings announced on Monday and lies in 17th spot, while Montgomerie moves up
three places into 11th. The two players agreed to share the Volvo Masters
title on Sunday when poor light made it impossible for them to continue their
playoff at the European Tour's season-ending event. Having each finished
at three-under-par 281 at Valderrama, the Ryder Cup stalwarts were still level
after two holes of their sudden-death playoff in fading light. Bradley
Dredge continued his late-season surge up the rankings after claiming third at
Valderrama, his third consecutive top-five finish on the European Tour. He
was two shots outside the playoff on Sunday and now lies 71st after moving up
20 places from last week. Dredge has improved 167 places on his position
at the end of last season and is now the highest ranked Welshman in the world.
There was no change to the top 10 with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and
Ernie Els occupying the top three places.
