Presenting him with his membership Club president Mal Levenson paid tribute, saying, "He is truly the nicest Southern gentleman you will ever meet."

Accepting the award Lee said, "I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Delaire Country Club.

"I certainly want to thank you for the opportunity of having worked here - now I'll be able to take advantage of the fine buffets here at noon."

Later when pressed as to which of courses he liked the most Lee refused to be drawn responding, "You love your children for their different characteristics and it's the same with a golf course."
