Montgomerie
to play despite back problem Colin Montgomerie dropped out of
the pro-am at the Volvo PGA Championship on Wednesday because of a back injury.
Montgomerie said he could still play in the tournament despite the injury,
which flared up during the last week's Deutsche Bank-SAP Open. Montgomerie lost
to Tiger Woods on the third hole of a playoff on Monday. ``That was the
limit for me -- 75 holes was three too many,'' Montgomerie said Wednesday. Despite
not participating in the pro-am, Montgomerie played five practice holes to see
the new bunkering on the West Course at Wentworth. ``I couldn't practice
at all and I won't get a practice round but it's not as if I don't know my way
around,'' he said. Montgomerie won the Volvo PGA three straight years from
1998-2000. He also won the World Match Play title on the course.
