Montgomerie's autobiography due for release

The much anticipated autobiography of six time Volvo Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie promises to shed a great deal of light on the pressures of life as a professional golfer.

Written by Lewine Mair, The Daily Telegraph's golf correspondent, The Real Monty delves into several previously unexplored issues of one of the most misunderstood - and most sucessful - golfers of his time.

Among other enthralling avenues, the book looks at how the Scot's obsession in winning his seventh Volvo Order of Merit title came close to ending his marriage, how he overcame criticism about his weight and how he made great efforts to cope with his tendency to flare up at any distractions on the course.

The book also includes a late chapter on Monty's involvement in Europe's magnificent victory in the Ryder Cup at the Belfry last month., as well as his desire to finish his career on a high note.

The Real Monty will be serialised in The Daily Telegraph from Tuesday 22 October.
