Security concerns over
Tiger at NZ Open
Tiger Woods' appearance next week at the New Zealand Open has brought with
it increased security concerns.
``There will be a police presence as in all golf tournaments that Tiger is
involved in, and there will be security when he is out in public,'' tournament
coordinator Paul Gleeson said Thursday. ``We want people viewing throughout the
world to see the very best of clean, green and safe New Zealand.''
Wellington police spokeswoman Kaye Calder said security arrangements were being
assessed regularly
``Tiger has an extremely high profile and since the events of Sept. 11, we're
all mindful of security matters,'' Calder said. ``The closer it gets to his arrival
and the start of play, the greater our assessment of security needs.''
The New Zealand Open is to be played at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club from Jan.
10-13.
