Open returns to St. Andrews
in 2005
St. Andrews, the storied golf course where Tiger Woods won his first Open title
in 2000, will hold the tournament in 2005.
This will be the 27th time the Open has been played on the Old Course, just
north of Edinburgh. The first time was in 1873.
Woods' triumph by eight strokes came during the year he also won the U.S. Open
and PGA titles. He went on to win the 2001 Masters.
This year's Open is at Muirfield in Scotland; the 2003 event goes to Royal
St. George's in England; and Troon in Scotland will stage the 2004 championship.
