Pebble
Beach ups purse to $5,000,000 The purse for the 2003 AT&T
Pebble Beach National Pro-Am has been raised from $4 million to $5 million, with
the winner to receive $900,000.
The Monterey Peninsula Foundation, the
governing body of the tournament, announced the increase for the PGA Tour event,
set for Feb. 3-9 at Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills. "Raising
the purse for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am to $5 million positively
impacts this prestigious event," said Ollie Nutt, the foundation's executive
vice president. "We have always attracted an impressive professional
field, and this will serve to further maintain our position on the PGA Tour schedule." One
possible drawback is the likely absence of Tiger Woods, who probably will not
play following knee surgery this month.
