Senior claims Australian PGA title
Peter Senior won his second Australian PGA Championship by one stroke from Rod Pampling on Sunday after taking a five-shot lead into the final round.
Senior, 44, who had not won a tournament since 1997, carded a four-round total of 17-under-par 271 including a final round of 73 at the Hyatt Coolum course in Queensland.
Relieved Queenslander Senior said he was glad the tournament was over after taking three putts for a bogey on the par-four 18th hole.
"Just as well there weren't too many holes left. I was leaking (shots) pretty bad coming home. But it's a great feeling," said Senior, who also won the tournament in 1989.
Senior was joint leader after the first round and outright leader by five shots after the second and third rounds.
Queensland's Pampling and Craig Parry were in joint second place after three rounds on 13 under par and pushed Senior with sub-par rounds on Sunday.
Pampling had a 69 for a four-round total of 16-under-par 272 while triple Australian Masters winner Parry fired a 70 to finish a shot behind Pampling in third place.
Scott Laycock with a 67 was fourth on 14-under-par 274, one shot ahead of Peter Lonard who had a 68 and Euan Walters, who was sixth on 12-under-par 276 after his closing 67.
