Curtis confirmed for Australian Open

Surprise British Open winner Ben Curtis has confirmed that he will contest this year's Australian Open at Moonah Links.

The American's win in the Open at Royal St George's in England in July was one of the biggest shocks in the history of the sport, as plenty of the world's best either failed to get close enough in the first three rounds to challenge or fell apart on the final day.

Curtis will play in his first Australian tournament from November 27-30 at the Melbourne layout, and Australian Peter Lonard has also revealed his intention to tee up in the event.

But while Curtis and Lonard are confirmed starters, Lonard's compatriots Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Adam Scott and Stephen Leaney look set to skip the event to instead play in the lucrative Nedbank Challenge at Sun City in South Africa.
