Big names commit to Dunhill
Links event
British Open champion Ernie Els, Vijay Singh and Nick Price head a strong line-up
for this year's Dunhill Links Championship, organisers announced on Wednesday.
Els, twice major winner Singh and former world number one Price are among a field
of 168 professionals who will play in the European Tour's pro-am event from September
25-28.
They will be joined by defending champion Padraig Harrington, 2001 U.S. Open
winner Retief Goosen and Australia's Stephen Leaney, who finished second behind
Jim Furyk in last month's U.S. Open at Olympia Fields.
The $5 million event, being held for the third time, features an individual
competition and a celebrity pro-am team event.
The unusual format played on three of Scotland's most famous links courses
involves a professional playing with a celebrity amateur for 54 holes on the Old
Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and the Kingsbarns course.
After 54 holes, the leading 60 professionals and top 20 teams will play the
final round at St Andrews.
Harrington won last year's title, edging out Argentina's Eduardo Romero at
the second extra hole of sudden-death to secure the fifth European Tour title
of his career.
