Faldo withdraws from PGA Championship

Six-time Major Winner Nick Faldo today announced his withdrawal from the US PGA Championship in August due to family commitments.

In a personal call to the USGA Nick conveyed his reasons for not attending the tournament and went on to pledge his support for next year’s event, hopefully playing his way in. He had been invited to play in the tournament from the USGA.

“Having taken part in 65 consecutive Major Championships this was obviously a tough decision to make bringing with it mixed emotions,” said Nick from his home in Old Windsor. “This is an incredibly special time in my life becoming a Dad again at 46, and I promised Valerie that I would be around to support her and our new daughter.”

So now that Nick has become a father for the fourth time you can be sure that there are no regrets at missing out on this chance at extending his incredible number of appearances in Majors, coming only second to Jack Nicklaus. There will be other opportunities on the golf course including the ’04 Ryder Cup where Nick hopes to play his way into the team, but for now he looks forward to spending time with his wife and Emma Scarlett Faldo.
