Injury concerns
for Sergio Garcia
Spanish hot-shot Sergio Garcia withdrew from the traditional pre-tournament
pro-am event at the Johnnie Walker Classic today with a hamstring injury.
Garcia, who has been in typically fiery form with the media, blamed it
on a kick-about with Ernie Els the previous day, but has indicated he will
be fit to tee off in the tournament proper tomorrow.
"It is a little sore, but I have had a session with the physio and
we are just going to keep treating it from now until tomorrow," he
said.
"We are guessing it was kicking the football, but it never hurt
when I was doing it. I didn't feel a twinge or anything like that.
"I came back to the course and hit some balls on the range then
went to play some holes.
"I teed off on the 10th and the first hole was fine, then on the
second hole I went for the drive and I felt it a little bit on impact.
"Then on the 13th tee I really felt it so I decided then to stop.
It is a pull on my hamstring that is the problem."
Garcia is due to tee off at 1pm local time (0500 GMT) on Thursday with
Australia's Robert Allenby and Swede Thomas Bjorn.
