Sergio Garcia returns to European Tour action

Sergio Garcia makes his first appearance on the European Tour this week when he defends his Canarias Open de Espana title.

Garcia has been plying his trade on the US PGA Tour this season with moderate success but will be considered the front-runner when the tournament gets underway in Tenerife.

He is seeking to become the first repeat winner of the tournament since Max Faulkner in 1953.

Garcia scored a four-shot last year at Gran Canaria, but this year’s event will be at the Golf Costa Adeje course.

He will be facing some stiff competition at the event, with Jose Maria Olazabl, Seve Ballesteros and last week’s Algarve Open winner Fredrik Jacobson in the field.
