Els & Goosen commit to Disney Tournament

They are friends, countrymen, neighbors and future teammates in the Presidents Cup competition. They also are headed to Disney.

While the Funai Classic at Walt Disney World Resort is five weeks away, several notable commitments already have been made, including high-profile Lake Nona neighbors Ernie Els and Retief Goosen.

Els and Goosen have won the past two events on the European Tour schedule, with the latter breaking through last week in France to record his first victory of the year. If Els hangs on to win the 2003 European money title, the South African pair will have combined to win the past three Order of Merit crowns as the top-ranked golfer in Europe. Els, No. 2 in the world rankings, has played Disney once, in 1999, when he finished second, one shot behind Tiger Woods. Goosen will make his first appearance at the Oct. 23-26 event.

Among the others to commit are U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk, Chad Campbell, K.J. Choi, Chris DiMarco, Scott Hoch, Charles Howell, Lee Janzen, Jerry Kelly, Peter Lonard, European Ryder Cup captain Bernhard Langer, PGA champion Shaun Micheel, 2003 Hall of Fame inductee Nick Price and Scott Verplank. Woods, a two-time Disney champion, also is expected to play. With Els, Goosen, Furyk and the likely commitment of Woods, the field will include four players in this week's top 10 in the world rankings, and three of the top six.
