Norman & Elkington to qualify for US Open

Greg Norman and Steve Elkington will be among the thousands of hopefuls attempting to qualify for next month’s US Open.

Norman and Elkington are the only Australians to win a Major tournament in the past decade, but that wasn’t enough to earn them a place in the field as their exemptions have lapsed.

Compatriots Robert Allenby, Craig Parry, Stuart Appleby, Stephen Leaney, Peter Lopnard and Adam Scott are the six exempt Australians for the tournament, which will be held at Olympia Fields in Chicago from June 12-15.

Norman and Elkington will attempt to earn a place through the regional qualifiers, as will fellow Australians John Senden, Rod Pampling, Scott Laycock and Geoff Ogilvy.

Aaron Baddeley’s leg injury will keep him sidelined while Greg Chalmers will also miss qualifying due to the impending arrival of his first child.
