European Tour annouce new Executive Director
The European PGA Tour has announced that George O'Grady will replace Ken Schofield as executive director.
The tour's committee voted for the 54-year-old unanimously.
O'Grady, chief referee at the 1977 Ryder Cup and staging manager for the 1981 event, helped set up Tour Enterprises and has been a deputy director since 1989.
Schofield, who has been at the helm since 1975, will retire at the end of 2004.
"To stand aside is always difficult, but 30 years is a long time and to go beyond would be selfish particularly as together with George O'Grady we have seen a huge interest develop in the game and the Tour," said Schofield.
Schofield has presided over a massive growth in the European Tour, whose prize money has increased from £427,917 in 1974 to £77,866,391 in 2003.
