Montgomerie chooses Lawrie as wildcard

Colin Montgomerie, the captain of the Great Britain and Ireland squad, has chosen Paul Lawrie as his wild-card pick for the upcoming Seve Trophy.

"I am delighted to have the option to pick a major winner and a Ryder Cup player to strengthen an already strong looking team," Montgomerie said of fellow Scot Lawrie, the 1999 British Open champion. "We as a team look forward to defending The Seve Trophy on Spanish soil."

Lawrie will join the team of Montgomerie, Paul Casey, Darren Clarke, Brian Davis, Padraig Harrington, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Lee Westwood and Phillip Price.

The Seve Trophy, a match-play event that features a team from Great Britain and Ireland and another from Continental Europe, will be held from November 6-9 at Campo de Golf Parador El Saler.

Continental Europe captain Seve Ballesteros selected José Maria Olazábal as his wild-card pick.

The rest of the Continental squad features Thomas Björn, Alex Cejka, Niclas Fasth, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Sergio Garcia, Raphael Jacquelin and Fredrik Jacobson.
