Sam Torrance collects
OBE from Queen
Victorious Europe Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance on Wednesday collected
his second honor from Queen Elizabeth II following his team's triumph at
The Belfry in September.
Having already been awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British
Empire), the 50-year-old Scot received the more prestigious OBE (Officer
of the Order of the British Empire) at Buckingham Palace.
Torrance, who holed the winning putt when Europe ended almost three decades
of United States triumphs in 1985, led his team to a 15 1/2 to 12 1/2 victory
at the same Belfry course against a United States team that included Tiger
Woods and Phil Mickelson.
That was the biggest margin of victory for either side since that 1985
European triumph.
