The U.S. Golf Association accepted 7,820 entries for the U.S. Open, its lowest number in five years.

The U.S. Open will be played June 12-15 at Olympia Fields Country Club outside Chicago, the first time the club has hosted a major championship since the 1961 PGA Championship won by Jerry Barber.

The last time entries were this low was in 1998 when there were 7,117 for the U.S. Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. There were 8,648 entries last year for Bethpage Black in New York.

Local qualifying starts May 6. Sectional qualifying is June 2-3.

The youngest player to enter was 13-year-old Mu Su of Bradenton, Fla. The oldest was 68-year-old George Bellino of Youngstown, Ohio.
